Abstract
It's required to transmit images and videos by acoustic waves in some applications in which we cannot use the electromagnetic waves. Underwater environments in ocean, sea and human body are examples of these applications. If we need to transmit the signal with more speed and good quality we must use compression. Many applications and activities in underwater environments need modern and modified techniques to do that. Inside the body the micro size Robots and that with macro size in underwater need speed transmission with outside control station. Difficulties in this world, the new trends, and what we have now in the underwater communication are introduced and surveyed in this paper. We propose fractal image compression as a preprocessing before transmission for that purpose. Also we proposed, with some results, the difference between the performance of those and other techniques in underwater.
