Abstract
A charging station of battery-based Electric Vehicle (EV) is a prime element of EV industry. Its performance should be precisely modulated to fulfill the requirement of EVs and local grids simultaneously. This performance has to comply with the regulations of local grid and satisfy the desire of the users. Moreover, it should assist in maintaining the voltage/power stability of the grid under static and transient operating conditions. This article investigates the impact of EV charging station on a local power system under different normal and/or abnormal operating scenarios. Appropriate remedy actions are proposed to maintain local grid security and stability under faulty conditions. Matlab and its dynamic platform, Simulink, are used to analyze and simulate the performance of the system under concern. The results show that the sudden change in the loading of the local power impacts the operation of the charging station. Moreover, the operation of the station affects the system voltage, and thus affects the sensitive loads. It also affects the power delivered to each load. Compensation strategies have to be deployed to maintain the voltage profile with the allowed regulation. Stepped capacitors have proven to be efficient in reducing the voltage drop
